My 2 Cents: Now here is another pieces of tech that might be able to make any surface multi-touch.  There would be so many possibilities…any tv/monitor has the potential to be an interactive surface :O)

A Portuguese company is hoping to transform our landscape and environment into one big touchscreen if they have their way, with a new technology debuting in Amsterdam.

 

 

Called projective capacitive touchscreen technology, the tech has the ability to turn virtually any surface into a touchscreen device for users to interact with.

"Our technology only captures touch, you can use it anywhere", Miguel Fonseca, chief business officer tells Pocket-lint in a one-to-one interview.

The technology is actually a thinner-than-paper polymer film that when applied to glass, plastic or wood turns the surface interactive.

The film, which features a grid of nanowires embedded into it, is able to monitor when and where it is touched and relay those co-ordinates to a controller, which in turn is read by software – making the user believe they have interacted with the specific point in question on the screen.

"You touch, it measures the disturbance, it will see where you are touching", comments Fonseca, explaining how the technology works.

My 2 Cents:  Here is a nice vid of what the iPad will be like and its built-in apps and at a $499 price-point you really can’t go wrong especially if it as easy to jailbreak as the iPhone…I really think that the main thing that make apple’s device better than the rest if because of captive touch…too nice.

Apple iPad: A Comprehensive Guide

My 2 Cents:   Now this might just be a good reason people why start to move away from the iPhone.  Have always been surprised that Apple was not trying harder to work better with flash.  Have to say that it looks pretty good on this device…hope to see it soon on other devices :O)

In addition to the features announced on Tuesday at the Google press conference, the Nexus One will be getting even more functionality down the road, specifically Flash Player 10.1. In the video above, Adrian Ludwig of Adobe shows off the some of the work the company has been doing to bring Flash player to mobile devices. He demos several sites with various Flash elements, such as games, video, advertisements–all smoothly running on the Nexus One.

My 2 Cents:  Now this is another piece of tech that i am actually dying to see more of as well.  Seems like there are so many possibilities with this hardware….it really takes the Wii’s system to another level.  I guess that there is going to be some great things to come in the new year :O)

A new video emerged this week which supposedly showcases an individual playing Half Life 2 using Project Natal, Microsoft’s upcoming motion control platform for the Xbox 360.

My 2 Cents: If you are a gamer this is a service that i am dying to try….i know that it sounds too good to be true, but if it is…too nice.  They are still in beta but hopefully it will be up and running soon :O)

Sure, OnLive has already done live demos of its "cloud gaming" service, but it never hurts to get another comprehensive 48-minute video on the subject. In a presentation at Columbia University, CEO Steve Perlman goes over the nitty gritty of how game streaming works, the OnLive user interface (11:53), an inevitable Crysis Wars demo (16:35), Brag Clips (17:49), and of course the iPhone app (19:31). Though cellphone integration is still limited to primarily spectating and social networking functions, PCs and Macs can get gaming via a 1MB browser plugin, or you can grab the microconsole streaming box for your TV, which Steve suggests might be given away for free with OnLive subscriptions. My 2 Cents: Now if you have a jailbroken iPhone this app is a must have and to make it even better is free unlike its counter part multifl0w.  Its basically a Palm Pre-style application switcher for iPhone OS.  Been playing with it for the past day and have to say that it is too smooth and easy to use…especially if you already know how to use backgrounder.  Much thanks to rpetrich for the work that he has done on this open beta…too nice :O)

Instructions: 

1) install backgrounder if not already installed
(search cydia)

2) add repo/source to cydia: http://booleanmagic.com/repo

3) Search for ProSwitcher and install in Cydia

TOO SWEET :O)

Remember ProSwitcher? We had written a few days back about this upcoming multitasking app for jailbroken iPhone users that was not only free and open-sourced, but was also better than its competitor Multifl0w; which sold at Cydia for $5, in a lot of ways.

Good news is that ProSwitcher is now out in public beta.

My 2 Cents:  It has come to my attention that with phones getting more sophisticated and more expensive they have become targets, especially the iPhone…not that your beloved blackberry is any less important to you.

I recently came across this app, which is only available to jailbroken phones but is a must have if you want to keep tabs on your lovely device.  FindMyI which can be found in cydia…too easy…just install and register app which takes only seconds…i tested it on my 3G and it works perfectly :O)

Update:  This would also be a great app to keep tabs on the kids as well, but a little expensive to be forking out an iPhone…

Update2: After a little more testing i think that is a little more buggy that I had originally thought but I hope that they are able to fix them soon :O(

What is all this for?
It gives you the ability to remotely track an iPhone or iTouch. This can be used to keep track of a stolen phone, or even phone of a family member. While a phone is out of your possession, we have features to recover data, track the phone, and lock others out of your phone.

Is it secure?
Yes, and for those with privacy concerns, we do not store any location data or private data until you choose to start tracking your phone.

What does this do?
This application runs on your phone, and contacts our website every (configurable) number of minutes. Using the website control panel, you can track it (with Google Maps) or remotly accomplish a number of tasks. We also offer continuous tracking for locating family members. When tracked, the phone can’t change settings.

How is this different from the alternative products?

• Runs in the background. AppStore apps require the thief to open an application, this doesn’t.
• Does NOT ask "Would you like to allow FindMyI to View your location" after FindMyi is setup
• Configurable in all web browsers, and in the application itself.
• Stealthly
• Receives minor updates without Cydia
• NOT battery intensive. It checks if it’s stolen on an interval, and doesn’t report its location unless it is told to be tracked.
• Does NOT require a thief to run an application manually (like "Private-i")
• Runs when phone is locked, or in "sleep" mode
• Not locked to a SIM card, if it is switched the phone is still identified
• Reports its accuracy, so you KNOW if you’re going to the correct place

Where do I get it?

It is currently available in Cydia, for jailbroken iPhone owners.

My 2 Cents: It’s been a while since i have posted anything but when I saw this proof of concept for Microsoft’s Surface, I just has to post it.  In the past I have only been seeing different flash animations that utilized surface’s multi-touch interface but in this case you really see the potential of this technology. 

It does not hurt that I am a fan of Dungeons & Dragons but the way that this was executed was too nice…I really can not wait to get my hands on this…too nice

We’ve seen some fancy applications for Microsoft’s Surface, the touchable, strokable, caressable computing device/big-ass table, but not a single one has made us twitter in nerdy glee like Surfacescapes. Created by a team at Carnegie Mellon University, it’s an implementation of Dungeons & Dragons in 3D, something that has of course been done dozens and dozens of times before, but this is different. Way different.
